Introduction
To enhance fairness, objectivity, and efficiency in hospital bed allocation while reducing the workload and pressure on bed coordinators, this system was designed to address the pain points of the inpatient center’s current bed assignment process. Manual decision-making often struggles to consider multiple factors simultaneously, such as ward eligibility for different departments, patient condition severity, repeated admission delays, order date, patient preferences, bed class, and gender. These limitations can lead to blind spots and consume significant time and effort.
The system is also designed to integrate with existing hospital systems, including inpatient reservation, admission inquiry, bed assignment, and SMS notification modules, enabling staff to complete tasks efficiently within a single interface. In addition, the system takes into account traditional paper-based workflows and introduces a patented visual card-based interface that summarizes key inpatient information. It automatically allocates beds following the hospital’s standardized procedures, determines bed priority, and assigns beds accordingly. This streamlines the allocation process, enhances operational efficiency, and supports hospitals in achieving digital transformation and AI-driven optimization in their bed management procedures.
Features / strengths
(1).Compared with traditional manual bed scheduling, AI can process large amounts of data for hundreds of patients waiting for beds within just one second. It simultaneously considers factors such as medical resource availability and the urgency of each patient’s condition, providing fair, objective, and optimized allocation decisions.
(2).Leveraging Machine Learning (ML) capabilities, the allocation strategy can be continuously optimized to ensure strict compliance with internal hospital protocols and evolving policy requirements. This capacity for adaptive, data-driven governance is pivotal in positioning Taiwan’s healthcare system as a global leader in intelligent healthcare solutions (Smart Healthcare)
(3).This system is not only used within our hospital but is also designed to take into account both Mackay Tamsui and Mackay Children’s Hospital. It has already established a framework that enables direct application and cross-hospital bed resource sharing. Moreover, with its specialized parameter control design, the system can be easily adapted and deployed across different hospitals for rapid implementation.
