Partnership wanted
Introduction
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver malignancy and is a leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. HCC occurs predominantly in patients having chronic liver diseases and cirrhosis. According to the reports, the vast majority of HCC occurs in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, where hepatitis B virus infection is endemic and many patients are infected from birth. The incidence of HCC in the United States and other developing countries is increasing due to an increase in hepatitis C virus infections. It is more common in males than females, in which the ratio between males and females is about 2.4: 1.
Features / strengths
Regarding the treatment, multiple treatment options are available for HCC,including curative resection, liver transplantation, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.Unfortunately, most of these treatments cannot produce a satisfactory effect on HCCpatients due to the limitations of, for instance, transplant rejection, infection complications, low-specificity, low-efficiency, and/or adverse side-effect. In view of the foregoing, there exists in the related art a need for novel methods for efficiently diagnosing and treating HCC in a subject in need thereof. The method further comprises identifying the subject having HCC by the method described in the first aspect of the present disclosure prior to the administration of HSD3B1 inhibitor.
