Introduction
NEMIS N-Light™ is an on-site rapid pathogen detection system developed by NEMIS Technologies AG in Switzerland. It is designed for food safety, environmental monitoring, and hygiene risk management. The system uses the patented AquaSpark™ chemiluminescence platform, which generates a light signal through enzyme-specific reactions, combined with phage-based enrichment technology to support highly sensitive detection of live bacteria. The N-Light™ portfolio includes tests for Listeria monocytogenes, Listeria spp., Salmonella Risk, E. coli, and ATP hygiene monitoring, supporting environmental monitoring programs for food processing areas, equipment surfaces, process water, and hygiene control.
The workflow typically includes sampling, transfer, incubation, activation, and chemiluminescence measurement. N-Light™ Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella Risk provide final results in approximately 24 hours after sampling, while N-Light™ E. coli provides results in approximately 16 hours. The system is suitable for hospital food service units, central kitchens, long-term care catering, food production, pharmaceutical and biotechnology environments, and hygiene-sensitive facilities that require proactive contamination risk monitoring. Features / strengths
1. On-site rapid testing: Supports environmental sampling and enrichment directly on site, reducing reliance on external laboratory workflows.
2. AquaSpark™ chemiluminescence technology: Uses patented chemiluminescent probes to generate measurable light signals through bacterial enzyme reactions.
3. Live-bacteria detection focus: Designed to support detection of viable bacteria for environmental risk monitoring.
4. Phage-based selective enrichment: Uses bacteriophage technology to suppress competing microflora and improve target specificity.
5. Multiple target organisms: Portfolio includes Listeria monocytogenes, Listeria spp., Salmonella Risk, E. coli, and ATP hygiene monitoring.
6. Faster actionable results: Approx. 24 hours for Listeria monocytogenes, Listeria spp., and Salmonella Risk; approx. 16 hours for E. coli.
7. Suitable for EMP programs: Supports environmental monitoring, cleaning verification, hygiene risk tracking, and audit preparation.
8. Flexible sampling options: Compatible with N-Light™ Swabs and MaxiSampler for different surface areas and sampling needs.
9. Swiss origin: N-Light™ tests are listed with country of origin CH, supporting Swiss technology and quality positioning.
