Introduction
1. The Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) is the only database in the world that includes clinical data on the use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). For example, 52.6% of prostate cancer patients in the NHIRD have records of using Chinese medicine to treat prostate cancer. Therefore, the TCM data within the database is an excellent tool for researching the clinical efficacy of TCM in cancer treatment. However, the data obtained from the database requires further basic medical research to verify its effectiveness and safety before applying the results to clinical cancer treatment.

2. Our team has established a novel anti-cancer Chinese medicine screening platform by combining big data databases and basic research. Through this model, we discovered that patients with several common cancers (including prostate cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, and colorectal cancer) who received Danshen treatment showed improved survival rates.

3. The team found that a purified compound from Danshen can inhibit cancer cell motility. It can also suppress cancer cells' ability to attract macrophages and inhibit the secretion of CCL2 by cancer cells and macrophages. Furthermore, this purified compound inhibits STAT3 phosphorylation and the expression of the Skp2 protein while also preventing STAT3 from translocating to the cell nucleus. The purified compound also inhibits cancer cell proliferation and induces apoptosis. In in vivo experiments, the purified compound can inhibit cancer cell growth and metastasis in xenograft mouse models.

4. The above findings have been granted a cancer invention patent in Taiwan and have been published in several scientific journals. This purified compound will be developed into an anti-cancer drug to benefit cancer patients. More importantly, this platform has clinical practicality and disease outreach potential. In the future, in response to the vast cancer market, the patent commercial application revenue generated by this platform will have enormous potential value.
