The 2025 Anniversary of the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI) opened on May 9. IBMI President Chi-Huey Wong highlighted that in recent years, IBMI has been actively promoting interaction and collaboration between the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) and health industries. He expressed hope that by leveraging the latest AI technologies, Taiwan can accelerate innovation and development in the biotech sector in line with the government’s “Healthy Taiwan” policy.
Wong noted that since IBMI was founded 23 years ago, it has continued to drive the development of Taiwan’s biomedical and health industries with the support and efforts of stakeholders from all sectors. The annual IBMI Anniversary serves as a platform to collectively reflect on the direction of Taiwan’s industrial development.
He emphasized that integrating cutting-edge AI technologies into the biomedical field will further propel industry growth. This not only aligns with national policy goals but also strengthens international collaboration and global strategic positioning, helping to make the health industry a key driver of Taiwan’s economic advancement.
In response to concerns over how U.S. tariff policies might impact the industry, Wong said that President William Lai’s five major response strategies have been well-received by the United States. These strategies include advocating for zero tariffs, increasing investment and procurement in the U.S., addressing tariff and trade barriers, and supporting initiatives to strengthen Taiwan’s industries. By working hand-in-hand with the government, the industry can transform tariff challenges into opportunities for growth.
