This year marks a significant expansion of Taiwan’s vaccine supply chain into the global market. Leading vaccine manufacturer ADIMMUNE has announced plans to increase production capacity in response to requests from long-term partner Sanofi. Additionally, Medigen Vaccine Biologics recently signed a regional distribution agreement with France’s Substipharm Biologics to export its enterovirus vaccine to ASEAN countries.
TaiGen Biopharmaceuticals’ influenza antiviral drug, Pixavir (TG-1000), has also made strides internationally. Through its licensing partner, the company submitted a new drug application (NDA) to China’s National Medical Products Administration in August 2024. Market estimates suggest the drug could be officially launched in China this year. TaiGen also plans to expand Pixavir’s presence in the U.S., Japan, and Southeast Asian markets.
ADIMMUNE revealed that it had received a notification from Sanofi requesting expanded production capacity. The company is focusing this year on improving production line efficiency and resource integration, aiming to double its production capacity by 2026. Furthermore, ADIMMUNE’s collaboration with South Korea’s leading ophthalmic company, SCD, on fill-finish and sterilization orders for the biosimilar Eylea may result in shipments to South Korea, Europe, and Canada starting in Q1 2025. For its influenza vaccine targeting the Southern Hemisphere, ADIMMUNE has received a factory inspection notice from Brazil, scheduled for June 2025, with plans to secure market approval and launch in Brazil by late 2026. This effort targets Brazil’s demand for influenza vaccines among its 110 million residents.
ADIMMUNE’s subsidiary, Enimmune, is also advancing its enterovirus 71 (EV71) vaccine. Production will shift this year from the pilot facility at the National Health Research Institutes to ADIMMUNE’s cell culture manufacturing plant, with an annual capacity of 300,000 doses. Enimmune plans to apply for market approval in Vietnam in the second half of 2025, aiming for the vaccine’s launch in Vietnam by 2026.
