LEADGENE BIOMEDICAL has announced the acquisition of 100% equity in SIDSCO (Scientific Integration Design Service Corporation), with the transfer process now complete. This strategic move aims to integrate CRO (Contract Research Organization) resources and related services. Chairman Yung-Chun Chuang stated that this acquisition will not only streamline existing technologies and resources but also incorporate SIDSCO’s animal disease model platform and specialized pathological analysis technologies into their service offerings, maximizing the synergistic effect of combining both companies’ capabilities.
Looking ahead, LEADGENE BIOMEDICAL aspires to establish an "Animal Welfare Alternative Platform" as the next step. By leveraging technologies such as cell culture, tissue engineering, and computer modeling, the platform seeks to replace traditional animal testing and reduce animal suffering. CEO Cheng, You-Wei highlighted, “For instance, drug toxicity tests can be conducted using human cells in vitro, while drug efficacy evaluations can adopt organ-on-a-chip technology to simulate human organs and more accurately confirm therapeutic outcomes.”
SIDSCO founder Ching-Kai Tseng noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, LEADGENE BIOMEDICAL and SIDSCO had already collaborated to combat the virus by developing a "SARS-CoV-2 Pseudovirus Cell and Animal Infection Screening Platform." This platform was used to test the effectiveness of drugs, neutralizing antibodies, vaccines, and disinfectant medical materials in inhibiting viral infections, laying a strong foundation for the current acquisition.
LEADGENE BIOMEDICAL, with its expertise in recombinant protein and antibody development, as well as two cutting-edge platforms for next-generation nanobody development and automated cell line development, complements SIDSCO's specialization in preclinical research, animal models, and pathological analysis. Together, the two companies will continue to provide comprehensive support across the industry chain and deepen their contributions to the biotech market.
Founded in 2018, SIDSCO offers a variety of contract research platforms, providing end-to-end customized services, from experimental design and material preparation to execution and report writing. Initially operating from the Innovation Incubation Center at Kaohsiung Medical University, SIDSCO established a new facility in 2020 at the Luzhu site of the Southern Taiwan Science Park.
