The first-ever Healthy Ageing Tech Show will kick off on August 2nd, targeting the booming silver economy in Taiwan, which is projected to reach 3.6 trillion NTD by 2025 and 1.7 trillion USD globally. Government agencies and related companies are joining forces to showcase their achievements and seize market opportunities. The expo’s organizing committee, led by consultant Jong-Chin Shen, aims to build a comprehensive industry supply chain and advance into the global arena.
Jong-Chin Shen emphasized that the Healthy Ageing Tech Show aligns with the Healthy Taiwan initiative, strengthening the supply of elderly needs and serving as a testing ground to receive feedback from senior users. This feedback will help develop better, more tailored products, driving industry growth.
Deputy Executive Secretary, Dr. Pei-Jung Lu, Office of Science and Technology Policy, National Science and Technology Council stated that the "Aging Technology Industry Action Plan" encourages cross-industry collaboration and the implementation of senior technology products and services. The show will provide the perfect platform for these initiatives.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs, in collaboration with ITRI, Metal Industries Research & Development Centre, Taiwan Textile Research Institute, and Food Industry Research and Development Institute, will showcase 33 technological R&D achievements. Director General Chyou-Huey Chiou highlighted a notable innovation: fabric circuits that allow real-time monitoring of seniors' muscle conditions via mobile phones, improving exercise efficiency and preventing injuries. This technology has been licensed to companies like Makalot Industrial, Texray, Pailung, Zentan Technology, and Sunstar Taiwan for developing sportswear.
Furthermore, the integration of color, thermal, and 3D imaging for chronic wound and tissue assessment has been transferred to Medimaging Integrated Solution Inc. and implemented in 92 hospitals and care centers, including NTUH Yunlin Branch and Tzu Chi Hospital in Hualien, benefiting over 2,764 people.
Director General, Chih-Ching Yang, Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that to identify needs and pain points, a mechanism for integrating supply and demand for the elderly has been established. This mechanism will connect companies like FamilyMart, Laurel, ASUS, imedtac, LI YUAN Transmission, Shengshun, U-care Medical Electronics, and Golden Smart Home Technology, showcasing products suitable for home care, day care, and fitness for the elderly.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs is also participating with its "Digital Senior Living Pavilion," collaborating with 35 companies such as Taiwan Taxi, FunAging Co, Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation, providing services across food, clothing, housing, transportation, smart precision training, and digital AI learning tools, aiming to "Help the Helpers" by offering comprehensive digital service resources for seniors' daily living, learning, and socializing.
President Huey-Kang Sytwu of the National Health Research Institutes emphasized that the health and happiness of seniors involve aspects like disease, nutrition, cognition, depression, vision, hearing, and mobility, aligning with the WHO's key to delaying disability. The NHRI will present 12 major health care solutions, encouraging seniors to enhance health management and self-awareness for a healthy and happy later life.
