Rapid Growth in Exosome Market: Taiwanese Biotech Companies Ramp Up Expansion EffortsJul 09, 2024

The exosome market, with its broad applications in cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune diseases, and regenerative medicine, is experiencing rapid growth and offers significant business opportunities. Taiwanese biotech companies such as BIONET,  Mycenax, Ever Supreme, and Lumosa Therapeutics are actively expanding their presence in this field by developing new exosome-based drugs and offering contract manufacturing services.

Exosomes have clinical applications in drug delivery platforms, diagnostic reagents, new drugs, and cosmetics. Although exosome drugs have yet to receive FDA approval, cancer diagnostic reagents using exosomes as biomarkers are being sold under the Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs) model. In the cosmetics sector, products derived from animal and human exosomes are already on the market, while exosome-based medical devices and pharmaceuticals are still in development. Analysts are optimistic about the high growth potential of exosomes in clinical medicine and medical aesthetics.

According to Grand View Research, the global exosome market was valued at approximately $112 million in 2022 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32.75% from 2023 to 2030, reaching a market size of $1 billion by 2030.

BIONET, under the leadership of BIONET Cell Therapy, specializes in developing new regenerative medicine cell therapies. In recent years, the company has accelerated the development of regenerative medicine cell formulations and exosome diagnostics and therapies, working on seven new cell therapy drugs for conditions such as dry eye syndrome and pulmonary fibrosis, with exosomes being used to treat dry eye syndrome. Analysts are optimistic about BIONET’s multi-faceted operations and expect exosomes to contribute to the company's revenue by 2025.

Mycenax focuses on contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) in the exosome field and has been contracted by Lumosa Therapeutics for exosome new drug development. Analysts note that  Mycenax’s EBITA is expected to turn positive this year as inspections are completed and projects reach their final stages, with profitability anticipated by 2025.

Ever Supreme plans to add an exosome technology platform this year and build its fourth GMP regenerative medicine facility, aiming to develop a first-in-class exosome drug targeting neurodegenerative diseases. Lumosa Therapeutics is introducing exosome disease treatment technology, focusing on developing the new stroke drug LT-6001, targeting unmet needs in the neurological field.
