(2022) A new option for minimal invasive spine surgery: Endoscopic Spine Surgery

Taiwan
Partnership wanted
Introduction
The use of spine endoscope to perform diskectomy and decompression for spinal stenosis has been proven to have clinical efficacy and benefits to the patient. Surgery is performed with minimal soft tissue damage and preservation of the anatomic spine, allowing shorter inpatient stay and quicker recovery time. With the advancement of endoscopic surgery instrumentation, the indications for use of endoscope has broadened to treat unstable spine like spondylolisthesis requiring fusion surgery.
Features / strengths
Advantages of endoscopic fusion surgery over traditional forms of surgery, or even minimal invasive fusion surgery, include the ability of the endoscope to visualize different angles under higher levels of magnification, ensuring the complete removal of the intervertebral disc and endplate preparation for the subsequent fusion procedure. Through a surgical wound of only 26 mm (the diameter of a 50 NT coin), endoscopic fusion surgery is able to implant the same cage and pedicle screws that are implanted in traditional spine surgery. With the use of endoscope in spine surgery, the application of endoscope has broadened to include fusion surgery for further clinical benefits.
