FocalTech and Show Chwan Memorial Hospital sign a memorandum of understanding on home physiological monitoringNov 03, 2022

A subsidiary of human-machine interface chip designer Focal Tech Systems, Focaltech Smart Sensors signed a memorandum of understanding with Chu Shang Show Chwan Hospital in Nantou for home physiological monitoring and telemedicine services, and invited Show Chwan Hospital to participate in a nationwide screening program for atrial fibrillation.

Focal Tech said that the "RhythmCam" app developed by Focaltech Smart Sensors and the VITOM multi-functional physiological monitoring device will provide people with the ability to screen for arrhythmias and measure a variety of physiological information at home, and will be combined with the resources of the Dementia Care and Telemedicine Centre at Chu Shang Show Chwan Hospital to provide more comprehensive home care and telemedicine services, creating a model for telemedicine in central Taiwan.

The RhythmCam app is the first medical device approved by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Taiwan to analyse arrhythmias, allowing the general public to screen for arrhythmias and export the measurement data into professional analysis reports for doctors to make diagnoses.

The app has been awarded the National Innovation Award in 2021. According to Focal Tech, the AF screening programme is currently being implemented nationwide and Focal Tech has already partnered with a number of leading medical institutions in Taiwan, including Chu Shang Show Chwan Hospital, and 14 doctors have participated in the national AF screening campaign.

The device can measure blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen and electrocardiogram in 40 seconds, with the help of a core algorithm and an intelligent app. This is the first armless blood pressure measurement in Taiwan, which not only increases convenience, but also gives the public a lighter feeling than traditional blood pressure monitors. The measurement data will also be transmitted to the remote medical centre at Chu Shang Show Chwan Hospital, allowing doctors to have more home physiological data for follow-up diagnosis and tracking.

The hospital's superintendent Dr. Chuang said that after 14 years of hard work, the hospital has expanded to 23 community service points to participate in telemedicine care, and is committed to working to make telemedicine service points reach out to people in the community and remote areas to solve the lack of local medical resources. With the addition of the Telemetry solution, more people will be able to access this service and manage their health more easily. It is also hoped that through this collaboration, the scope of telemedicine services will be expanded and the Chu Shang Show Chwan Hospital will become the leading telemedicine hospital in the central region.

Through this collaboration, we hope to apply our current products to the hospital's telemedicine system, and in the future, we will create more physiological measurement devices and systems to serve the needs of Chu Shang Show Chwan Hospital, and continue to build up the telemedicine operation model of our products, so that new medical technology can be promoted to every family and protect the health of the nation together. We will continue to build up our telemedicine business model to bring new medical technology to every family and protect the health of our people.
