On the evening of the 5th, Lotus Pharmaceutical announced that its board of directors has approved a $50 million (approximately NT$16 billion) acquisition of Sanofi's trademark, market authorization, and manufacturing technology for the drug Alpha Choay in Vietnam and Cambodia. Following the completion of this transaction, Lotus Pharmaceutical will immediately take over Alpha Choay’s sales operations in both countries.
Lotus stated that Alpha Choay (Chymotrypsin) is a widely used medication in Vietnam, primarily for treating edema caused by inflammation, trauma, surgery, or burns. It is known for its effective anti-inflammatory properties, accelerating the absorption of edema due to inflammation, as well as post-surgery and post-trauma hematomas and swelling. In 2023, Alpha Choay® achieved sales exceeding $22 million in Vietnam and Cambodia.
Petar Vazharov, General Manager of Lotus Pharmaceutical, highlighted the company’s commitment to providing high-quality medications to patients worldwide. Acquiring Alpha Choay, a leading anti-inflammatory brand in Vietnam, underscores Lotus's dedication. Notably, this acquisition allows Lotus to enter Vietnam's pharmacy distribution network, significantly expanding its influence in the region.
Alpha Choay marks Lotus Pharmaceutical’s second acquisition in Southeast Asia in 2024, following its purchase of Teva's subsidiary in Thailand this past August. Lotus is actively seeking growth opportunities in the region to achieve scale expansion, aiming to become a leading pharmaceutical company in the Asia-Pacific region.
