TTY Biopharm's New Colorectal Cancer Cocktail Therapy Gains Approval, Aligning with Global Treatment TrendsJul 04, 2024

In line with the latest international treatment trends, TTY Biopharm in Taiwan has announced that its new cocktail therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer, combining the oral chemotherapeutic agent Trifluridine/Tipiracil (FTD/TPI) with the monoclonal antibody Bevacizumab, has been officially approved by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA). This approval targets a market exceeding 400 million NT dollars annually.

According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, colorectal cancer ranks third in the top ten causes of cancer-related deaths in Taiwan, highlighting the significant impact of this disease on public health. Since 2002, TTY Biopharm has been building a comprehensive product line for colorectal cancer treatment through in-house development and external licensing, aiming to provide diverse treatment options for patients and healthcare providers.

Taiwan is the third country to approve this combination therapy following the United States and Europe last year. The FTD/TPI oral chemotherapeutic agent, introduced from Japan, has become the international standard for treating advanced colorectal cancer due to its unique mechanism of action.

TTY Biopharm noted that in recent years, the Japanese manufacturer has continued to research the combination of FTD/TPI with Bevacizumab in the "colorectal cancer cocktail therapy," accumulating substantial positive clinical evidence. Consequently, the U.S. FDA and the European EMA approved this therapy in August 2023. The TFDA granted approval based on the U.S. and European approvals and clinical trial reports.

Jing-Lan Hou, CEO of TTY Biopharm, stated that the company has been involved in the colorectal cancer treatment field for over 20 years, supplying the FTD/TPI oral chemotherapeutic agent for nearly eight years, making it one of Taiwan's stable suppliers of colorectal cancer medications. In April this year, TTY Biopharm took over part of the marketing responsibilities for Bevacizumab, further enhancing its product line in the colorectal cancer field.

Ms. Hou emphasized that TTY Biopharm will continue to uphold its "patient-centered" philosophy by introducing the latest international treatment trends through "licensing new international drugs," "exporting challenging generic drugs," "developing new domestic drugs," and actively collaborating with international pharmaceutical partners. This approach aims to provide stable, high-quality, and diverse medication options for healthcare providers and patients.
