Compal Electronics, a leading manufacturer, has been advancing its smart healthcare initiatives in recent years. The company's team has developed "Ablation Treasure," a fully self-developed and manufactured derivative product based on "radiofrequency thermal ablation technology." This product can be used for treating diseases such as liver and biliary tumors and thyroid nodules. In addition to receiving market approval in the United States and Taiwan, the company recently announced that, after a year of efforts, it has successfully obtained medical device approval in Malaysia.
The Medical Products Division of Compal noted that the "Ablation Treasure" RFA system was introduced to the Malaysian market last year as part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs' International Trade Bureau's overseas market promotion plan. The company's recent focus has been on the Southeast Asian market. In addition to Malaysia, applications have also been submitted in Thailand. Looking ahead, the team plans to strengthen market promotion efforts in Malaysia and continue pushing Taiwan's high-quality medical devices into the Southeast Asian market.
Compal stated that the smart radiofrequency thermal ablation system combines two globally pioneering innovative technologies: "ultrasound imaging" and "direction-adjustable electrode needles." Using image guidance, the electrode needle is inserted into the lesion for localized thermal ablation treatment. This approach reduces surgery time by an average of 35% and minimizes ablation area error to within 2%. The direction-adjustable electrode needle allows for single-needle insertion, which can be adjusted according to the tumor's shape, significantly enhancing surgical safety, precision, and reducing recurrence risk.
Kun-Sung Chen, Director of Compal's Smart Healthcare Products Division, admitted that the self-developed "Ablation Treasure" initially obtained FDA approval in the United States, making it the first market to be entered. However, the U.S. market is highly competitive, with major competitors like Medtronic, which originated in the U.S. Therefore, Compal has partnered with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to enhance research and development capabilities and identify unique differentiators for competition. Unlike many companies that only produce monitoring instruments, Compal is one of the few large manufacturers capable of producing invasive treatment devices, which is a key competitive advantage.
