Taipei Veterans General Hospital holds medical forum in Hanoi, Vietnam, showcasing Taiwan's soft power in healthcareApr 02, 2024

On March 30, Taipei Veterans General Hospital and the Vietnam Medical Association jointly organized the "2024 Taiwan-Vietnam Medical Science Conference" in Hanoi, Vietnam. The conference covered important topics such as "Cardiovascular Treatment," "Cancer Treatment," "Smart Healthcare, and Medical Tourism," aiming to promote interdisciplinary dialogue between Taiwan and Vietnam in healthcare, establish a communication platform for the medical industry, unlock global medical issues, and promote Taiwan's medical services to the Vietnamese market. Ambassador Richard R.C. Shih and Deputy Chief Shi-hsuan Chao attended the event on behalf of the Embassy of Taiwan in Vietnam. 

Ambassador Richard Shih stated in his speech that Taiwan's medical technology is well-known worldwide, attracting thousands of foreigners to seek medical treatment in Taiwan every year. Over the past half-century, medical personnel stationed overseas have assisted millions of foreigners in regaining their health. This highly anticipated event aims to showcase Taiwan's advanced medical technology and the spirit of borderless compassion, aligning with Taiwan's New Southbound Policy. It aims to demonstrate Taiwan's medical and health cooperation with Vietnam, leverage Taiwan's soft power in healthcare to drive industrial opportunities, introduce Taiwan's smart healthcare innovation and services to local Vietnamese businesses, thereby improving patient care quality, promoting more medical and health exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Vietnam, and benefiting more people. 

Dr. Wui-chiang Lee, Deputy Director of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, pointed out in his speech that leading 18 top medical teams from Taiwan to Vietnam, the main purpose is to promote exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Vietnam in the medical field, integrate healthcare with industry, establish a bridge mechanism for industries, and drive the development of the industrial chain. 

The symposium included three agendas: First, "Cardiovascular Treatment," featuring keynote speeches by experts from Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Vietnam's Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, and Vinmec Hospital on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Second, "Cancer Treatment," with experts from Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Vietnam's Viet-Duc Hospital, 108 Hospital, Da Nang Hospital, Vinmec, and Vietnam National Cancer Hospital discussing common cancer diseases and the latest developments in radiation therapy. Third, "Smart Healthcare and Medical Tourism," presented by Dr. Wui-chiang Lee, Deputy Director of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, and representatives of Taiwanese companies, introducing the latest applications of artificial intelligence, smart hospital management, and remote medical services. Representatives from Vietnamese universities and companies also introduced the application analysis and development of Vietnam's healthcare digital transformation. 

In the afternoon, Taipei Veterans General Hospital and hospitals and medical companies from Taiwan and Vietnam signed a total of 8 memorandums of cooperation, aiming to strengthen cooperation and exchanges in medical professional training, research data management, smart hospital management and operation, and patient consultation and treatment. 

Dignitaries in attendance included Secretary-General Wei-Hai Chen of the Vietnam-Taiwan Affairs Council, Honorary President Yao-Kuei Chen of the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Vietnam, President Kun-Sheng Wang and Vice President Yi-Tang Lin of the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Haiphong, President Lin Xuanjie and Secretary-General Zhou Shengxuan of the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Beining, President Shi-Liang Luo, Chairman Da-Chiang Jian, Executive Vice President Chi-Wen Yang, and Secretary-General Bo-Chang Chen of  the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Hanoi, Director Feng-Yi Huang of the Taiwan Medical Tourism Development Association. As well as representatives from multiple Taiwanese sponsoring companies, including Chunghwa Telecom, TANVEX BIOPHARMA Biopharm, Advantech, Starise Inc., IMEDIPLUS, MiiS, Imedtac, and IMS, etc. The event was attended by over 400 Taiwanese and Vietnamese medical professionals.
