Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH) today announced the results of 10,000 robotic-assisted surgeries in the fields of colorectal surgery, urology, otolaryngology, obstetrics and gynaecology, cardiac surgery and thoracic surgery, as well as the development of minimally invasive surgical applications in a wide range of disciplines, creating a new benchmark for robotic surgery for the benefit of more patients.

In 2006, Chang Gung Hospital introduced the da Vinci robotic minimally invasive surgery system, and after years of joint investment, innovation and promotion with other Chang Gung hospitals, it has now a new milestone that has been reached with the completion of 10,000 robotic surgeries.

The 10,000 robotic surgeries represent a breakthrough and innovation for the Chang Gung group, said Dr. Yu-ray Chen, Honorary Chairman of the Chang Gung Committee. According to the hospital, the 10,000 da Vinci surgeries performed by CGMH account for approximately one-sixth of all da Vinci surgeries performed in Taiwan.

As per New Taipei Municipal TuCheng Hospital, it has been evaluated by medical technology to have proven safety and efficacy, and the evidence shows that it has helped to reduce surgery time and bleeding. The National Health Insurance Administration of Taiwan has recently announced that 17 da Vinci procedures will be covered by health insurance, giving the public an additional choice of procedures in colorectal surgery, general surgery and thoracic surgery. The hospital group believes that technology can bring positive changes to healthcare, and that robotic surgery is an increasingly important tool in surgical care.
