Introduction
Currently, research indicates that the human body's immune system weakens and ages as a person gets older. In general, at the age of 40, the immune function is about half of what it was at the age of 20, and by the age of 70, it's only about one-tenth of what it was at the age of 20. Therefore, our institute offers immune cell self-storage or hematopoietic stem cell self-storage services for the following individuals:
1. Individuals who have been cured of acute lymphocytic leukemia or diffuse large B-cell lymphoma but have a high likelihood of relapse can opt for self-storage of healthy immune cells. If a relapse occurs within 30 months, they can consider using CAR-T therapy (covered by insurance starting in November 2023).
2. Individuals who have been cured of other solid tumors but have a high probability of recurrence can also choose to self-store healthy immune cells. These stored cells can be used as a supplement to boost the immune system in case chemotherapy is required during an unfortunate relapse, reducing the risk of bacterial infections caused by weakened immunity due to chemotherapy.
3. Any healthy or sub-healthy individuals can store their immune cells or hematopoietic stem cells as a rapid and secure means of self-rescue in the event of a bone marrow transplant being necessary due to a disease.
Features / strengths
1. Our immune cell storage service at this institute has been certified by Novartis Pharmaceuticals, confirming that immune cells stored in our facility can seamlessly integrate with CAR-T therapy when stored for up to 30 months. (For storage beyond 30 months, further discussion with Novartis may be required.) We anticipate obtaining FACT certification within the next three years.
2. Our peripheral blood stem cell storage service at this institute has been approved by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration and can serve allogeneic transplant patients. Self-stored peripheral blood stem cells will undergo the same environmental equipment processes and will be stored in a separate container, ensuring their safety equivalent to our institute's allogeneic peripheral blood storage facility.
