NTU Hospital Yunlin and NHRI Establish "Southern Bio-Innovation Base" for Medical ResilienceJan 29, 2026

To address Taiwan’s rapid transition into a super-aged society by 2025, National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) Yunlin Branch and the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) signed an MOU on the 28th to launch eight pilot research projects for 2026.

Strategic Shift: From Cost Center to Value Creator Superintendent Ma Hui-ming emphasized that this collaboration transforms Yunlin from a "medical periphery" into a "living lab" for translational medicine and smart healthcare. By injecting national R&D resources into a region with a high elderly population, the initiative seeks to turn public health challenges into bio-innovation opportunities.

Focus Areas (8 Pilot Projects):

  1. Digital Therapeutics: Developing "Digital Therapy" models for elderly nocturia and AI-driven X-ray analysis for low-cost osteoporosis screening.
  2. Precision Medicine: Utilizing large animal models for cardiac therapies and researching the link between alcohol metabolism genes and chronic diseases.
  3. Exposomics: Building a platform to analyze long-term environmental factors (the "exposome") on health, providing data for health tech and insurance sectors.
  4. Early Diagnostics: Developing non-invasive detection tools for early-stage dementia.
