Leadership Shake-up: Record High Frequency of Chairperson Changes in 2025 Biotech SectorDec 29, 2025

The year 2025 has seen a massive restructuring of corporate governance within the biotech industry, with at least 20 companies reporting changes in their chairpersons—the highest density of leadership turnover in history. The shifts are categorized into three main themes: changes in ownership, major shareholders stepping back, and generational succession.

Key Movements:

  • Ruentex Group of biotech BU: Following the passing of founder Chang Nien-chi, his family has gradually stepped back. Dr. Heidi Wang, CEO of OBI Pharma, now leads the group's biotech empire, including Amaran Biotechnology and Obigen Pharma. This marks a new era for Ruentex's biotech roadmap.
  • Hostile Takeovers & Ownership Changes: DaBomb Protein Biotech founder Liu Yu-fen stepped down under pressure from the Go Far International Group. Sagittarius Life Science saw a change after a public tender offer by the Yang family. LaunXP BioMed underwent a total reorganization, with new Chair Wang Chi-hsien refocusing the pipeline on oncology and metabolic drugs.
  • Major Shareholders Taking the Helm: Chen Hsien-che, a low-profile major shareholder, personally took charge of Polaris in December 2025. Similarly,  Acepodia saw its major shareholder step to the front.
  • Governance Concerns: U-ark Technology faced scrutiny after six high-level executives, including the VP, Spokesperson, and CFO, resigned simultaneously in early 2025, followed by the departure of the General Manager.
