On the 13th, Quanta Chairman Barry Lin spoke about the company’s smart healthcare initiatives, acknowledging the challenges inherent in this field. He explained that medical devices require lengthy certification processes before entering hospitals, and that AI software alone is insufficient—comprehensive solutions must be provided. Quanta has already entered the U.S. market and hopes to build a successful business in smart healthcare going forward.
Lin said that when Quanta decided to develop its AI business, it focused on three main sectors: smart vehicles, smart manufacturing, and smart healthcare. The company has already achieved solid results in smart vehicles, generating steady profits, while in smart manufacturing, its subsidiary, Taiming Robotics, is performing impressively and preparing for an IPO. However, the path in smart healthcare is comparatively tougher due to the need for products to demonstrate real value to hospitals, beyond just AI software.
Lin emphasized that Quanta’s strategy goes beyond developing AI algorithms; it aims to deliver complete solutions that doctors truly need—integrating hardware, AI software, and practical application into comprehensive systems. Only such fully integrated medical products have a necessary place in healthcare; otherwise, no matter how advanced the technology, they risk becoming “nice-to-have but not essential.”
Given the limited scale of the Taiwan market, Quanta is actively expanding internationally, with smart healthcare products already promoted in the U.S. Lin candidly noted that the medical industry progresses slowly, requiring lengthy certification and clinical trial processes—a long road ahead—but with comparatively high profit potential.
Lin highlighted that each product development cycle typically exceeds ten years—“sharpening a sword for ten years”—before truly reaching the market and generating profit. This represents a major challenge for Quanta. He affirmed that the team will persist and strive, hoping to carve out a significant presence in the smart healthcare sector.
