BenQ Dialysis, a subsidiary of Qisda Corporation and Taiwan’s only domestic manufacturer of artificial kidneys, announced on the 26th its partnership with Compasstion Veterinary Hospital to establish the country’s first animal hemodialysis center. This collaboration brings cutting-edge medical technology into the field of critical veterinary care, enabling more animals to receive timely and effective treatment, and marks BenQ Dialysis’s active expansion into the veterinary healthcare market.
According to research, over 30% of cats and 10% of dogs suffer from kidney disease, with renal failure being one of the leading causes of death in pets. Many animals face life-threatening conditions due to multi-organ failure or acute kidney injury. However, the high cost of treatment and lack of medical equipment often prevent the use of traditional intermittent hemodialysis (IHD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD), leading many animal hospitals and pet owners to forgo treatment altogether.
To address this issue, BenQ Dialysis has introduced continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) equipment and consumables specifically designed for animals. This advanced technology not only supports hemodialysis, plasma exchange, and fluid removal but also effectively clears cytokines from the bloodstream. By partnering with Compasstion and adopting a centralized care model, the collaboration optimizes nursing resources and dialysis equipment usage, significantly lowering treatment costs and making this advanced medical service more accessible. Compasstion offers specialized nephrology services that provide comprehensive care for acute and chronic kidney failure and collaborates with leading veterinary oncologist Dr. Chih-Chung Lee to manage the side effects of acute kidney failure during cancer treatment.
Huang Shih-Hsiu, Chairman of BenQ Dialysis, stated, “We are excited about this collaboration. In 2024, Taiwan saw an increase of 230,000 newly adopted cats and dogs, compared to only around 130,000 newborns.
