PharmaEssentia’s Ropeg Not Affected by MFN Policy as It Falls Outside Medicare Part B ScopeMay 15, 2025

PharmaEssentia stated on May 13 that its innovative drug Ropeginterferon alfa-2b (Ropeg or P1101) is not impacted by the United States’ "Most Favored Nation" (MFN) drug pricing policy announced on May 12, 2025, as the policy details remain uncertain and would only apply to drugs covered under Medicare Part B, if it follows the 2020 version previously proposed. Since Ropeg is covered under Medicare Part D and not Part B, its current reimbursement structure and clinical usage remain unaffected, and patient treatments can continue without interruption.

Ropeg is a long-acting interferon independently developed and manufactured by PharmaEssentia. It has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of polycythemia vera (PV) and is marketed in multiple countries. Medicare Part B generally covers medications administered in healthcare settings by professionals, while Ropeg is a subcutaneous injection that patients can self-administer at home. As such, it falls under Medicare Part D, with coverage typically coming from private commercial insurers or out-of-pocket payment, and is not directly affected by policies targeting Medicare Part B drugs.

PharmaEssentia noted that despite the signing of the executive order, the policy’s actual implementation involves several stages, including public notice, comment periods, the establishment of implementation details, and possibly legislative procedures. These steps introduce significant uncertainty regarding the policy’s ultimate impact. During this process, aspects such as the scope of applicable drugs, pricing mechanisms, and execution details may be subject to change. The company will continue to closely monitor the policy's progress to ensure uninterrupted access to medication for patients.

PharmaEssentia emphasized that amid changes in global policy environments, it will maintain active and open communication and collaboration with insurers, healthcare professionals, and relevant policy stakeholders to safeguard patient access to treatment and uphold quality care. With Ropeg’s recognized clinical value and growing global market presence, the company remains confident in its strong medium- to long-term growth momentum and continues to operate with stability, striving to benefit patients and enhance shareholder value.
