As Taiwan enters an aging society, supportive policies such as regenerative medicine initiatives and National Health Insurance (NHI) coverage for next-generation sequencing (NGS) and single-gene testing are expected to boost the business momentum of biotech companies involved in diagnostics and cellular therapies this year.
The global regenerative medicine market holds significant growth potential. According to MarketWatch, the market size is projected to reach USD 531.7 billion by 2033, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32.4% from 2024 to 2033.
BIONET has received approval for 63 projects under the Special Regulation for Regenerative Medicine. Among these, adipose-derived stem cell therapies have the highest number of approvals. In addition to contract manufacturing for cancer immunotherapy using cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells for stage IV solid tumors, the company has also obtained approval to manufacture cell therapy products for stage I–III solid tumors that have proven unresponsive to standard treatments.
BIONET's genetic testing portfolio spans from NGS to comprehensive cancer diagnostics. Following the NHI’s reimbursement for NGS, a recent policy meeting approved insurance coverage for single-gene testing, benefiting patients with colorectal cancer, melanoma, and three types of hematologic malignancies, including multiple myeloma. These policy developments are expected to drive business growth.
KIM FOREST has experienced double-digit monthly revenue growth in its cancer drug testing and precision health business since the second half of last year. The company has benefited from NHI reimbursement policies for cancer drug test reagents and precision oncology diagnostics. With NGS testing transitioning from an optional to a standard procedure, the market demand for NGS services is expected to heat up, further boosting the volume of cancer drug testing. Business momentum is anticipated to pick up from the second quarter onward.
Genomics is seeing a resurgence in business growth, driven by increasing demand for gene sequencing and synthesis services, as well as strong visibility in orders for its LPD product line. Additionally, its GMP nucleic acid manufacturing facility is advancing trial production. The company is actively expanding into international markets, with ongoing initiatives in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia.
