The biotech industry is poised for continued growth in 2025, with Oneness Biotech launching its diabetic foot ulcer treatment, Fespixon, in China, while Panion & BF Biotech's nephropathy drug, Nephoxil, is expected to receive marketing approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). Meanwhile, OBI Pharma’s triple-negative breast cancer drug, OBI-822—developed from glycoscience technology licensed from former Academia Sinica President Chi-Huey Wong—is set for an interim analysis of its Phase III clinical trial, and Rock BioMedical aims to out-license its broad-spectrum vaccine after completing its Phase I trial in the first half of the year.
Handa Pharmaceuticals has acquired the leukemia drug Phyrago for $30 million, with revenue contributions anticipated in the first half of this year. The company is also expanding insurance coverage in the U.S. for its multiple sclerosis treatment, Tascenso ODT, while its pediatric epilepsy collaboration project, HND-045, is expected to generate additional cash flow.
Several companies are on the verge of regulatory approvals. Panion & BF Biotech’s Nephoxil and TaiGen Biopharmaceuticals' flu antiviral drug, Pixavir (TG-1000), licensed to Joincare Pharmaceutical Group, are both under review by China's NMPA. Polaris Pharmaceuticals’ mesothelioma treatment, ADI-PEG 20, and Foresee Pharmaceuticals’ three-month depot formulation of the prostate cancer drug CAMCEVI are currently under review by the U.S. FDA, as is Handa Pharmaceuticals’ smoking cessation drug, HND-032. Meanwhile, Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corporation is seeking regulatory approval for its enterovirus 71 vaccine in Vietnam.
In the licensing sector, Formosa Pharmaceuticals’ ophthalmic drug, APP13007, has been licensed to Grand Pharmaceutical Group and successfully completed Phase III clinical trials in China late last year, with a marketing application planned for this year. AP Biosciences’ bispecific antibody drug, IBI302, for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration, had previously been licensed to Innovent Biologics and is scheduled for an interim analysis by the end of the year.
