On the 22nd, LEADGENE BIOMEDICAL announced the acquisition of 100% equity in SIDSCO (Scientific Integration Design Service Corporation), with the transfer process now complete. The integration of CRO (Contract Research Organization) resources and related services aims to strengthen innovation and R&D capabilities, enhance overall competitiveness, and accelerate the development of the biotechnology industry chain. Looking ahead, LEADGENE BIOMEDICAL plans to establish an "Animal Welfare Alternative Platform" using technologies like cell culture, tissue engineering, and computer simulation to replace traditional animal experiments and alleviate animal suffering.

By combining their strengths, the partnership expands the scope and scale of one-stop services. LEADGENE BIOMEDICAL Chairman Chuang Yung-Chun emphasized that the acquisition not only consolidates existing technologies and resources but also integrates SIDSCO’s expertise in animal disease model platforms and specialized testing techniques like pathological slicing into LEADGENE’s service offerings, creating a synergistic effect. Additionally, the company will now offer more comprehensive preclinical research services for projects like health food certification and early-stage drug development.

Founded in 2018, SIDSCO provides a wide range of contract research platforms, offering fully customized services from experimental design and material preparation to execution and reporting. Initially based at Kaohsiung Medical University's innovation incubation center, the company established a new facility in the Luzhu District of the Southern Taiwan Science Park in 2020. This facility complies with standard regulations and has earned multiple domestic and international certifications. With capabilities spanning cell and molecular biology, animal models, and pathological tissue analysis, SIDSCO delivers stable and reliable results, playing a key role within the Southern Taiwan Science Park's biotech cluster.

SIDSCO founder Ching-Kai Tseng noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the two companies collaborated on developing the "SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus cell and animal infection activity screening platform" to test drugs, neutralizing antibodies, vaccines, and antiviral medical devices. This partnership laid the foundation for the acquisition. LEADGENE BIOMEDICAL’s expertise in recombinant protein and antibody development, along with its next-generation nanobody and automated cell line development platforms, complements SIDSCO’s capabilities in preclinical research, animal models, and pathological analysis. Together, they continue to provide comprehensive support for the industry chain, unlocking the biotech market’s potential.

LEADGENE BIOMEDICAL CEO Yeou-Wei Cheng highlighted advancements such as drug toxicity testing using human cells for in vitro studies and the integration of organ-on-a-chip technology for efficacy evaluation, enabling more precise confirmation of therapeutic effects. Developing alternative platforms not only raises ethical standards in preclinical research but also aligns with sustainability goals, accelerating drug development while reducing costs.
