U-Neuron Biomedical Expands into Malaysia, Pursues Halal Certification: Chairman Jian Highlights Four Key Growth Drivers for 2024Dec 17, 2024

U-Neuron Biomedical announced yesterday its plans to penetrate the rapidly growing Southeast Asian market by collaborating with the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) in Malaysia to pursue Halal certification. Chairman Jian Feng-Ren highlighted four major growth drivers that position the company for a strong performance in the coming year.

Jian stated that U-Neuron will use Sarawak as its base, having signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and an onboarding agreement with SBC. The company will collaborate with Sarawak General Hospital, the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre, the Sarawak Cancer Centre, the Sarawak Heart Centre, and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak on research into amniotic stem cells, marking a significant milestone.

Jian emphasized that U-Neuron holds a global patent for its pioneering amniotic stem cell cultivation technology. Its new erectile dysfunction treatment, UA002, has begun patient recruitment at two hospitals in Taiwan, with Phase 1 clinical safety tracking expected to conclude in the first half of 2025. The company plans to consult regulatory agencies regarding Phase 2 trial designs and continue patient recruitment to establish criteria for this next stage. U-Neuron also aims to file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the U.S. FDA.

As the third driver, Jian introduced UB003, a novel treatment for moderate-to-severe dry eye syndrome based on exosomes. This drug is currently in the process development phase, adhering to international regulatory standards. The fourth driver involves U-Neuron’s aesthetics and skincare product line, which has developed five innovative ingredients registered under the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI). This includes the "Deer Series" and human amniotic stem cell-derived exosomes, which are being distributed in the Chinese market through a stable partnership with Chlitina.

Dr. Samuel Ting, a consultant at Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, praised U-Neuron's globally leading patent technology for the isolation and cultivation of amniotic stem cells. He expressed hope that the collaboration would attract more local talent to stem cell research, positioning Sarawak as a global hub for stem cell innovation. Ting also called for increased investment from private companies and the Malaysian government in stem cell medical research applications.

Shiaw-Min Hwang, U-Neuron’s General Manager and Chief Technology Officer, highlighted the company’s proprietary deer antler products. Utilizing an exclusive extraction technology, only the antler's tip is used as the core material, with essential components concentrated into an extract. Using advanced AI-driven extraction techniques, the process isolates high-concentration bioactive factors, including Activin-A, to maximize its multifunctional benefits.

Looking ahead, Jian noted that with the aging population driving rising demand in regenerative medicine, U-Neuron will continue to focus on amniotic stem cells as its core technology. The company plans to build a product ecosystem encompassing regenerative medicine, aesthetics and skincare, and nutritional supplements. U-Neuron will also actively explore high-growth potential overseas markets to expand its competitive edge.
