The 2024 Taiwan Healthcare Expo opened yesterday, with Minister of Economic Affairs Kuo Jyh-huei highlighting that the health and medical industry’s potential value exceeds NT$10 trillion. Taiwan aims to construct a diverse and comprehensive "big health" industrial chain by leveraging its strengths in AI and ICT technologies to advance smart healthcare, medical aesthetics, health screening, functional foods, and sports science.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 8th Taiwan Healthcare Expo, Minister Kuo welcomed international participants and emphasized that building a "Healthy Taiwan" aligns with President William Lai's vision and the cabinet’s objectives. A key goal is to increase the average life expectancy of Taiwanese citizens from 79 to 82 years within eight years, ensuring healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Minister Kuo noted that with the rapid development of AI, countries worldwide are investing in smart healthcare initiatives such as drug development, disease diagnosis, health monitoring, and medical management. AI is poised to revolutionize medical technology and enhance the precision of personalized medicine.

He also mentioned that the Ministry of Economic Affairs encourages Taiwan’s biomedical sector to harness AI and ICT capabilities to create high-value-added products and services across smart healthcare, medical aesthetics, health screening, functional foods, and sports science. This initiative supports businesses in pursuing innovation and service-oriented growth.

The health and medical market is vast, Minister Kuo said, underscoring the importance of Taiwan's full commitment to this sector. He expressed confidence that through joint efforts between the government and industry, Taiwan can build a diverse and holistic health industrial chain. This development would serve as the next "national treasure" and ensure robust public health for the nation.

After the opening ceremony, Minister Kuo, along with President of the Legislative Yuan Han Kuo-yu and IBMI Chairman Wang Jin-pyng, toured various exhibits, including the Industrial Development Bureau, China Medical University, Taipei Medical University, Hualien Tzu Chi Medical Center, Chang Gung Medical Foundation, BenQ Qisda Group, and Anyong Freshmart.
