A Milestone for Taiwan’s Cell Therapy: RegeneCyte Secures FDA ApprovalNov 22, 2024

RegeneCyte, a groundbreaking cell therapy developed by RegeneCyte, a subsidiary of the Microbio Group, has received marketing authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) through a Biologics License Application (BLA). This achievement makes RegeneCyte the first commercial cord blood stem cell therapy to obtain FDA approval globally, distinguishing it from previous approvals limited to public donation banks operated by non-profit organizations.

Global Leadership in Cell Therapy

Tong-Young Lee, CEO of RegeneCyte, highlighted that the company’s wholly owned U.S. subsidiary, StemCyte Inc., operates a state-of-the-art facility in California. StemCyte maintains an allogeneic cell bank that complies with the highest international standards, including those set by the FDA, EMA, TFDA, AABB, and FACT. This robust infrastructure positions RegeneCyte as a pivotal supplier in the rapidly evolving field of cell therapy, capable of supporting global demand for allogeneic cell-based treatments.

Innovative Applications of RegeneCyte

RegeneCyte is an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell product derived from human cord blood hematopoietic progenitor cells. Its primary application is in treating blood and immune system disorders. The therapy has also achieved breakthrough progress in clinical trials targeting long COVID syndrome and acute ischemic stroke, while further expanding into potential applications for chronic fatigue syndrome, aging-related diseases, and other suboptimal health conditions. RegeneCyte holds significant promise to provide new therapeutic options for millions of patients worldwide.

A Comprehensive Cell Therapy Ecosystem

Lee emphasized that RegeneCyte’s cord blood cell bank serves as the foundation for its “Three Pillars of Cell Therapy”strategy: cell-based drugs, cell supply, and cell services. By integrating the development pipeline from raw cell materials to advanced cell therapies, RegeneCyte has established a seamless and vertically integrated ecosystem. The company is committed to advancing innovative treatments and leveraging its diversified global operations to drive both short- and long-term growth, aiming to become a world leader in cell therapy.

Listing and Future Prospects

As RegeneCyte’s largest shareholder, the Microbio Group announced that RegeneCyte is scheduled to be listed on the Taiwan Emerging Stock Board this December. This milestone further solidifies its position as a pioneer in the global cell therapy market, paving the way for continued innovation and leadership in the field.
