Following the success of its Phase II trial of the oligonucleotide-based drug SNS812 for COVID-19 treatment, Oneness Biotech has introduced a new appetite-neutral weight loss drug, SNS851, dubbed the "Happy Slim" medication. Recently, Oneness also unveiled two innovative anti-infection drugs, SNS611 and SNS612. These groundbreaking first-in-class (FIC) oligonucleotide drugs, developed using proprietary technology, mark Oneness’s commitment to becoming a globally competitive platform company for oligonucleotide-based drugs, drawing attention from international pharmaceutical firms and investors.
According to CEO Shuling Cheng, oligonucleotide drugs offer significant advantages over antibody therapies, including reduced development time and cost. Oneness’s technology platform, built through years of trial and error, achieved a major milestone with the successful Phase II trial of SNS812. This COVID-19 drug has demonstrated robust safety and effectiveness in neutralizing all variants, positioning it as a potential global solution if COVID resurges. Another recent achievement, SNS851, achieves weight loss without affecting appetite—a development achieved through Oneness's in-house technology.
Cheng emphasized that Oneness is striving to lead the global oligonucleotide drug market—a sector where Taiwan's biotech industry has the potential to excel. Oneness has developed a series of oligonucleotide drugs, including SNS611, which targets Fusobacterium nucleatum, a key pathogen linked to periodontitis and colorectal cancer, and SNS612, a new-generation drug aimed at inhibiting Helicobacter pylori. Both drugs have completed pharmacological testing, demonstrating efficacy, and two additional oligonucleotide drugs are set to be announced soon.
Following the recent public unveiling of its oligonucleotide drugs, Oneness has garnered significant attention from global investors and major pharmaceutical companies. Cheng shared that Oneness has been deeply invested in oligonucleotide research for over a decade, originating from a collaboration in 2014 with Academia Sinica under SYNOVEL Sciences, which later merged with TFBS Bioscience in 2017. Since 2019, Oneness has focused on developing oligonucleotide drugs, achieving success with SNS812 in 2021, and continues to concentrate on diseases caused by viruses, pathogens, and bacteria, as well as metabolic diseases.
Discussing Oneness’s first drug, ON101 for diabetic foot ulcers, Cheng noted that new drug introductions require time for physicians to learn and adopt them. Beyond Taiwan, Oneness has partnered with well-known pharmaceutical companies in Singapore, Malaysia, and China for local distribution, with steady growth anticipated. Oneness is also planning to enter the U.S. market next year.
