On August 9th, Lotus Pharmaceutical announced consolidated revenue of NT$2.72 billion for July, marking a month-on-month increase of 144% and a year-on-year growth of 18.97%. This figure represents the highest revenue so far this year and the second-highest single-month revenue in the company's history. Lotus attributed this remarkable performance primarily to the substantial increase in sales of the blood cancer drug Lenalidomide in the U.S. market.
For the first seven months of this year, Lotus Pharmaceutical achieved a consolidated revenue of NT$11.66 billion, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 3.64%. The company’s export business outside Asia demonstrated particularly strong growth, with a monthly increase of 471% and a year-on-year increase of 53%. This surge was driven by the strong demand for Lenalidomide. In contrast, the Asian market experienced a 25% year-on-year decrease, largely due to a one-time royalty payment of NT$186 million recognized in South Korea during the same period last year, which elevated the prior year's base.
Lotus recently released its financial report for the second quarter, showcasing impressive results. The company reported a net profit after tax of NT$1.332 billion for the quarter, representing a 28% increase from the previous quarter and a 5% increase year-on-year. Earnings per share (EPS) after tax reached NT$5.09. The second-quarter consolidated revenue was NT$4.743 billion, with a year-on-year increase of 7% and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 13%. Revenue from the Asian market grew by 5% year-on-year, primarily driven by business in Taiwan and Southeast Asia. Revenue from exports outside Asia increased by 8% year-on-year and 29% quarter-on-quarter. The gross margin for the second quarter improved to 61%, rising by 6 percentage points from the previous quarter and 2 percentage points year-on-year.
Lotus’s flagship product, Lenalidomide, has a global market size of approximately $10 billion. Following the settlement of patent litigation with the original manufacturer, Lotus has secured the right to steadily supply Lenalidomide to the U.S. market with significant annual growth potential until early 2026.
Looking forward, in the second quarter, Lotus submitted 38 drug applications globally and received 16 market approvals. Notably, Enzalutamide (the generic version of Xtandi) received market approval in several South American countries, including Guatemala and Paraguay. In the Southeast Asian market, Lotus secured market approval for Pomalidomide (the generic version of Pomalyst) in Singapore and launched Lenalidomide in Vietnam, further enhancing its influence in the region.
In terms of business development, Lotus completed its first Southeast Asian acquisition by acquiring Teva Pharmaceutical’s subsidiary in Thailand, strengthening its presence in the region. This acquisition expanded Lotus's portfolio in ophthalmology and respiratory products in Thailand and broadened its pharmacy distribution network. The business development team has also signed agreements for four products in Southeast Asian markets, expanding the company's product lineup. Currently, over 25 projects are in active negotiations, including new chemical entities (NCEs), 505(b)(2) products, biosimilars, and several brand acquisition agreements.
