HeXun Biosciences announced yesterday (1st) that it has signed a "Mesenchymal Stem Cell Drug Production Technology" licensing agreement with Ji Yan Biomedical. HeXun will provide Ji Yan with its umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell culture technology and exosome production technology. Together, they will develop exosome products derived from umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells, aimed at applications in wound healing and the medical beauty field.
HeXun stated that through this collaboration, it will receive an initial signing fee of $1.8 million USD. Subsequent milestone payments based on development progress will bring the total licensing fees to $4.2 million USD. The total contract amount is $6 million USD (approximately NT$190 million). This marks HeXun's first technology licensing deal, indicating that HeXun’s exosome technology is now mature enough for licensing. This collaboration will inject significant growth momentum into HeXun’s operations, complementing the growth in market demand for exosomes.
HeXun emphasized that Ji Yan is a professional pharmaceutical biotechnology company that initially focused on developing functional health products for chronic diseases. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company transitioned to biotech pharmaceutical research and development. In 2020, Ji Yan collaborated with medical centers on the industrial-academic development and verification of the DC-PDL1 cancer vaccine and worked with top international research institutions.
Since 2022, Ji Yan has recognized the potential of exosomes and has continuously commissioned HeXun for process development and research. They aim to use exosomes as raw materials to develop various medical devices and pharmaceutical applications, focusing initially on wound healing and medical beauty. Even after the licensing agreement, HeXun will continue production, while Ji Yan will invest in the development resources for medical devices, new drugs, and international market collaborations.
