RMT expands global presence, increases investment in Taiwan's biotech sectorApr 03, 2024

RMT Holdings Group's Taiwan-based subsidiary, Reliance Medical Technology Corporation, recently acquired the stem cell therapy technology from the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and held a signing ceremony in Tokyo, Japan on March 19. Additionally, RMT Holdings Group announced the official establishment of its preparatory office in Japan.

Japanese Diet Strategy Committee Chairman and Liberal Democratic Party Senator Junichi Ishii, along with the current adviser to the Japan Business Federation, Katsumasa Motomoto, attended the event. Ishii praised RMT Holdings Group's expertise in regenerative medicine and revealed plans to establish a special window for regenerative medicine in response to President Ishihara's recommendations on Japan's regenerative medicine law, showing full support for the group's development in this area.

RMT Holdings Group has a strong presence in regenerative medicine throughout Asia and is the seventh largest shareholder of StemCell Institute, the largest umbilical cord blood stem cell company in Japan. The group also has multiple hospital and industry-academia collaboration projects in Japan, the United States, and Southeast Asia. The announcement of the official establishment of its preparatory office in Japan and the significant investment in carefully selected R&D technologies in Taiwan demonstrates the group's commitment to conducting clinical trials and bringing innovations to the global market. Reliance Medical Technology Corp., a subsidiary of the group, has obtained clinical authorization from ITRI for "Allogeneic Stromal Stem Cell Therapy for Diabetic Foot Ulcer Wound Repair Products," marking the first step in RMT's investment. The goal of this collaboration is to apply research findings to the care of diabetic foot ulcers while Reliance Medical Technology Corp. will also collaborate extensively with ITRI to further develop its presence in the field of clinical trials.

RMT Group President Tomohiro Ishihara mentioned that the choice to sign the agreement in Tokyo was significant to him personally, as he has Japanese heritage. Last year, ITRI also celebrated its 50th anniversary in Tokyo, adding meaning to the occasion. He hopes this agreement will mark the first step in cooperation between the two companies in Taiwan, with Japan being the starting point.

Many regard TSMC as a leader in the electronics technology sector. Ho Chi-kung, Vice Chairman of Reliance Medical Technology Corp., quoted Huang Jen-hsun's prediction that there is no further room for development in computer technology, and the next global trend will be in the field of bioscience. He also noted that President Ishihara, who has previously invested heavily in the energy industry, has now shifted his focus to biotechnology, demonstrating a visionary approach.
