Compal, a major contract manufacturer, is further expanding its smart healthcare initiatives. On March 29th, Chun-de Shen, Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President, announced that the group's cardiovascular imaging medical devices and dementia AI EEG analyzers are expected to receive certification from the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) in the second quarter and by the end of the year, respectively.
Chun-de Shen stated that Compal entered the medical industry relatively late, with a strategic plan spanning only a decade. It primarily focuses on areas lacking in Taiwan's medical industry. Initially, it invested in stem cell therapy, and its subsidiary has introduced stem cell and immune cell medical services to regional teaching hospitals. In terms of medical devices, the company focuses on digital, smart health, and AI medical devices. Chun-de Shen mentioned that the group's subsidiary, Horizon BioMed, has developed a leading international AI EEG analyzer, which is utilized in applications for identifying mental illnesses.
According to Chun-de Shen, Horizon BioMed's AI EEG analyzer for depression has obtained TFDA approval and is being deployed in domestic teaching centers, receiving recognition from numerous psychiatrists. Additionally, the AI EEG analyzer for dementia is expected to obtain TFDA approval by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Compal is collaborating with Chi Mei Hospital to develop cardiovascular imaging medical devices.
