NGS: Nantional Health Insurance Prompts Laboratory Expansion Needs! Genomics BioSci Signs Exclusive Agency Agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific for Taiwan RegionMar 14, 2024

Leading gene sequencing manufacturer  Genomics BioSci & Tech Co., Ltd.  announced yesterday that it has signed an exclusive agency agreement with global scientific services leader Thermo Fisher Scientific to obtain exclusive sales rights for certain products from its Laboratory Product Division (LPD) in Taiwan. This partnership strengthens Genomics BioSci's portfolio of agency products and expands its operational growth momentum.

Genomics BioSci stated that the annual market size of laboratory instruments and consumables in Taiwan is approximately $13.7 million (about NT$420 million), with Thermo Fisher being a leading brand in the industry. The LPD series products obtained this time, including low-temperature and ultra-low-temperature refrigerators, sterile operation tables, CO2 incubators, and biosafety cabinets, have all passed the review and certification of the US FDA and Taiwan TFDA.

Genomics BioSci pointed out that in 2021, it first signed an exclusive agency agreement with Thermo Fisher for Taiwan, introducing animal health testing reagent products and successfully entering the domestic livestock system supply chain, laying a solid foundation for cooperation between the two parties. Recently, it has obtained exclusive agency rights for its multifunctional gene analyzer in the Taiwan hospital channel, representing the affirmation of the original factory's recognition of Genomics BioSci's one-stop gene sequencing technology capabilities and solid customer channel strength.

In view of Genomics BioSci's continuous extension of partnerships in areas such as cell therapy, extracellular vesicles, and CDMO, it has planned to establish factories starting this year, and there will be a high demand for laboratory-related equipment. Therefore, since the second half of 2023, it has actively sought the exclusive agency of Thermo Fisher's LPD series products in Taiwan, further deepening the partnership between the two parties.

Genomics BioSci's combined revenue for the first two months of this year was NT$61.1 million, a year-on-year increase of 20.2%. With the inclusion of next-generation gene sequencing (NGS) in health insurance, the growth in demand for related testing is expected to drive a new wave of LDTs (Laboratory Developed Tests) application demand in biotech companies and hospitals across Taiwan, expanding the original laboratory market size.
