The Centre for Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine of the Tri-Service General Hospital was launched on 20 October. Dr Yi-Jen Hung, Superintendent of the hospital, said that in the future it will support the development of national policies, become a regenerative medicine incubator, create a platform for sharing regenerative medicine resources and promote the development of Taiwan's regenerative medicine industry.
Hung pointed out that in May 2019, the hospital became a medical centre capable of performing cellular therapy, and in July 2020, it formed an alliance with Young Cell. After going through all kinds of severe challenges during the epidemic, the Center for Cell Therapy and Renegenerative Medicine has become operational since September this year.
According to Hung, the center, jointly established by Young Cell, is the first in Taiwan of its kind, representing a milestone in Taiwan's regenerative medicine field by leveraging on the strengths of hospital and the biotech sector.
Tri-Service General Hospital is the first in Taiwan approved officially to conduct cellular therapy, and that the Center for Cellular Therapy and Regenerative Medicine will bring together various cellular therapy providers, and a team of physicians, to provide novel therapeutics and high-quality medical facility.
The Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine Centre mainly focuses on cell therapy that has been officially approved, including: autologous immune cell therapy, autologous adipose stem cell therapy and autologous chondrocyte therapy, which are suitable for the treatment of various types of cancers that have failed to respond to the standard treatment in the stages of 1 to 4, such as liver, lung, breast, ovarian, colorectal, head and neck cancers, blood cancers, lymphoma, etc., as well as the cellular repair therapy such as knee and joint cartilage defects, massive burns and subcutaneous tissue defects. Joint cartilage defects, extensive burns and subcutaneous tissue defects.
The centre is now located in the Tri-Service General Hospital Tingzhou Branch and occupies an area of 440 ping. The treatment rooms are en-suite, with independent and hygienic aseptic operation methods for cell collection, preparation and transfer, providing a more comfortable experience than in a medical centre, and offering patients a high standard of medical services.
