NHRI partners with KK Women's and Children's Hospital in Singapore for rare diseasesFeb 16, 2023

The National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) held a conference on precision health on 15 February and invited experts from Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States to share their research findings on ethnic genomics, precision medicine and big data analytics at the conference. At the same time, an agreement was signed with KK Women's and Children's Hospital, the largest public obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatric specialist hospital in Singapore, to collaborate on precision medicine in the field of rare diseases, making tangible progress in precision medicine for the people of Taiwan and Singapore.

As a mission-oriented medical and health research institute in Taiwan, NHRI has in recent years met the core strategic direction of Taiwan's precision health industry and assisted the Ministry of Health and Welfare in jointly building Taiwan's precision health care system, which provides personalized and precise medical care models by accurately analyzing the genetic information of the nation's population, improving the quality of medical care while reducing unnecessary medical expenses.

NHRI has thus been actively collaborating with domestic and foreign medical institutions and the industrial sector to integrate resources from industry, government, academia, research and medicine through a public-private partnership. The National Biobank Consortium of Taiwan (NBCT) has been established to standardize and share national health information to support biomedical research and industry development, laying a good foundation for the practice of precision medicine.

With the results and clinical research capabilities gained over the years, NHRI signed a collaboration agreement with Singapore's KK Women's and Children's Hospital to deepen the research collaboration between the two countries on rare diseases, and to expand the Asia-Pacific rare disease research network through evidence-based medicine and real-world data. NHRI hopes to make significant progress in the prevention, detection and treatment of rare diseases through the sharing and integration of resources, and to jointly promote the development of international precision medicine and biotechnology industries.
