BioNTech, the coronavirus vaccine manufacturer, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan's Retain Biotech for cancer vaccine immunotherapy. The signing of the contract is "the most fulfilling day of my life", said Terry Guo, founder of Foxconn.
According to Guo, mRNA is a technology that encapsulates mRNA fragments, the special mutation message of cancer cells, in a fatty layer as small as a nano-particle, to trigger the body's immune system to attack and kill cancer cells after vaccination. Because BioNTech has this most advanced immunotherapy technology, it was able to develop the new crown vaccine very quickly, less than a year after the outbreak, but the cancer vaccine, also known as the innovative mRNA immunotherapy, is really the core of BioNTech's research and development, as the cancer vaccine therapy is the biggest dream of mRNA technology, which has now reached a mature stage.
BioNTech and Retain Biotech have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on "Cancer Vaccine" Immunotherapy. The first collaboration will be for Retain Biotech to assist BioNTech in the development and clinical trial of an mRNA cancer vaccine (BNT113) for the treatment of head and neck cancer. As Taiwan has the highest incidence of head and neck cancer in the world, the clinical trial will begin in Taiwan and the two companies will discuss expanding the collaboration to other cancer vaccines, cellular and immunotherapy projects in the future.
In particular, many cancers are ethnically differentiated, with Asian cancers, white cancers and Chinese cancers, and BioNTech will assist BioNTech in forming an expert scientific advisory committee in Taiwan to provide BioNTech with recommendations, data and clinical trials, particularly for "Asian cancers".
The signing ceremony between Retain Biotech and BioNTech will be the first of its kind for innovative oncology technology, and now BioNTech's "Cancer Vaccine" is expected to open up a new hope for further cancer treatment, and how important the word hope is to patients with serious cancer. It is believed that in the foreseeable future, with the addition of cancer vaccines, many patients will be better treated and cancer will no longer be a feared and terminal disease.
The successful development of the COVID-19 vaccine shows that BioNTech's mRNA technology is unique in the world, and this collaboration between the Yonglin Foundation and BioNTech is the most correct direction for Taiwan's biotechnology industry to take in the global arena, combining the most advanced international technology, playing the international cup, working together, and conducting clinical trials in Taiwan or other regions to bring Taiwan's biotechnology industry to the international stage, and praying that all cancer patients and their families will have more hope and less suffering. We hope that all cancer patients and their families will have more hope and less suffering.
