Minimally Invasive Surgery has become the mainstream because of less pain and scarring. In addition, admission days, ICU stays and mortality rate after the surgery also decreased from this advanced and safer way. Surgeons from Cardiovascular Medicine Center, General Surgery Division, Orthopedics Department, Urology Division, and Obstetrics and Gynecology Department conduct surgery through this way.
Cardiovascular Center is one of the Endoscopic Vein Harvesting Training Centers at Asia-Pacific Region, it is famous for Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Replacement and Trans-catheter Mitral Valve Repairing Surgery. Our core expertise is minimally invasive valvular heart surgery, and we perform more than 85% of it, such as mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valves. We have also performed lots of non-sternotomy minimally invasive (smaller wound) valvular and coronary surgery, for example, coronary artery bypass through a small left thoracotomy.
General Surgery Division is one of the most energetic and active team, and it is known for Laparoscopic Surgery and Organ Transplantation; they also conduct several demonstrations. Successful rate of Hepatectomy is over 98%, which is not only the top in Taiwan, but also ranked front around the world. Living donor liver transplantation is conducting through minimally invasive surgery approach nowadays, and it can minimize the risk of complications after the surgery dramatically. We also advocate multidisciplinary approach for patients with pancreatic cancer and other cancers in digestive organs. In addition to MIS approach, we also devoted to the most complicated resection and reconstruction of cancer of digestive organs, including routine vascular resection, cytoreduction surgery and hyperthermic intraoperative peritoneal chemotherapy.
Orthopedics Department applies Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (UBE) for Spine Surgery. Through applying endoscope of high resolution, Orthopedic surgeons can complete the surgery when the view is narrow. UBE for spine surgery can also avoid tissue damage and injury from the surgery, UBE has become a breakthrough in this field.
Department of Radiation Oncology has 4 radiotherapy systems including 2 state-of-the-art TomoTherapy® image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) system, 1 high-end Elekta Versa HD linear accelerator which can offer 4D image-guidance and 1 Nucletron microSelectron® Digital high-dose-rate (HDR) iridium-192 after loading brachytherapy. We are the first dual-Tomotherapy center in Asia, and known for demonstration center for radiation therapy in Asia Pacific.
