IBMI Elects 8th Board of Directors: Academician Pan-Chyr Yang Succeeds Chi-Huey Wong as PresidentMar 04, 2026

The Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI) convened its first joint meeting of the 8th Board of Directors and Supervisors today, March 3, finalizing its new leadership. Academician Pan-Chyr Yang has been elected as President, succeeding Academician Chi-Huey Wong, who was honored with the title of President Emeritus for his pivotal role in aligning Taiwan’s biotech sector with global standards.

Strategic Transition: Deepening the "Medicine × Technology × Industry" Model

President Yang, a former two-term Vice President of IBMI and convener of the National Innovation Awards, is a veteran in bridging clinical research with industrial application. Under his leadership, IBMI will shift toward a "Dual-Core" strategy focusing on Innovative Drug Development and AI-Driven Healthcare.

To strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration, the board expanded from three to four Vice Presidents:

  • Technology: Barry Lam (Chairman, Quanta Computer)
  • Private Healthcare: Chang-Hai Tsai (Chairman, China Medical University)
  • Public Healthcare: Wei-Ming Chen (Director, Taipei Veterans General Hospital)
  • Policy & Industry: Rong-Jin Shen (Presidential Advisor)

The "Double Committee" Strategic Roadmap

The 8th Board, which now includes heavyweights from the semiconductor, ICT, and finance sectors, will establish two specialized committees:

  1. Innovative Drug Development Committee: Aimed at integrating R&D, clinical trials, and capital markets to boost the global success rate of original Taiwanese drugs.
  2. AI Smart Healthcare Development Committee: Focusing on the clinical deployment of AI imaging and precision diagnostics, while aligning data governance with international regulatory standards to establish Taiwan as an Asian hub for AI medical innovation.
