Taiwan Extends Hospital Accreditation Validity to 6 Years; Smart Healthcare and Workplace Quality to be IntegratedJan 28, 2026

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) has officially announced that the validity of hospital accreditation will be extended from 4 years to 6 years. This change applies retroactively to hospitals that passed accreditation in 2023, meaning their next evaluation will not occur until 2029.

  • Strategic Integration: Deputy Director-General Liu Yu-ching of the Department of Medical Affairs stated that the new system aligns with the "Healthy Taiwan Deep-Rooting Plan." Future standards will incorporate Smart Healthcare, Workplace Optimization, and Innovative Teaching Models.
  • "Daily Monitoring" Transition: The reform aims to reduce the administrative burden of "preparing for accreditation." By 2026, the MOHW and the National Health Insurance (NHI) Administration plan to automate data collection for quality indicators, shifting from manual reporting to real-time, digitized "daily monitoring."
  • Workforce Support: Integrating AI and smart medical tools is expected to reduce tedious paperwork, directly addressing front-line medical staff burnout and improving the overall quality of the healthcare environment.
