Orient Europharma Partners with Japan’s Dermatology Leader Maruho to Target Hyperhidrosis MarketJan 23, 2026

Orient Europharma (友華生技) has entered into a strategic licensing agreement with Maruho, Japan’s leading dermatological pharmaceutical firm. The signing ceremony in Kyoto grants Uwa the Taiwan rights to Glycopyrronium tosylate hydrate (marketed in Japan as Rapifort).

  • Clinical Value: Rapifort is a topical treatment for Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating). Unlike aluminum salts (variable efficacy) or Botox (invasive and physician-dependent), this prescription cloth offers a stable, non-invasive, and flexible daily treatment option.
  • Market Potential: The global hyperhidrosis market is projected to grow from US$693 million (2023) to US$1.16 billion (2032). In Taiwan, with an estimated prevalence of 1–3%, hundreds of thousands of potential patients remain underserved.
  • Partnership Synergy: Uwa will lead local marketing and business development, while Maruho provides R&D and clinical support. The product is a result of Maruho’s collaboration with the US-based Journey Medical Corp.
