Formosa Pharmaceuticals (台新藥) announced on the 12th that it has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Samil Pharmaceutical for APP13007 (Clobetasol Propionate Ophthalmic Suspension 0.05%), a novel drug for treating inflammation and pain following ocular surgery.

• Drug Profile: APP13007 utilizes Formosa’s proprietary APNT nanoparticle platform. It was approved by the US FDA in 2024 and offers a simple BID (twice-daily) dosing regimen for 14 days.
• Market Opportunity: South Korea performs nearly 800,000 cataract surgeries annually, with total major eye surgeries exceeding 600,000 patients.
• Deal Terms: The agreement includes an upfront payment, sales milestones, and royalties. This follows a 2024 CMO (Contract Manufacturing) agreement between the two firms, deepening their strategic partnership.

CEO Dr. Erick Co noted that Samil’s leadership in the Korean ophthalmology market makes them an ideal partner for the first new ophthalmic steroid introduced to the market in nearly two decades.
