Addressing the Shortage of 80,000 Nurses: Foxconn and ASUS Test Robots for Mass ProductionDec 18, 2025

Taiwan is facing its most severe nursing shortage in 30 years. According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, while over 310,000 individuals hold nursing licenses, fewer than 20,000 (roughly 60%) are active on the front lines. To combat this, several tech giants are deploying collaborative nursing robots:

  • Foxconn & Central Taiwan General Hospital (CTGH): The Nurabot, co-developed with Kawasaki Heavy Industries, recently went live after four months of stress testing. Equipped with a robotic arm, it handles specimen transport and patient education. It is estimated to save nurses up to 10 hours of work and 10,000 steps per day.
  • ASUS: Currently seeking hospital partners for its robot, Kairo.
  • EverBot Technology (長聯科技): Deployed 8 "Aibi" robots at China Medical University Hospital to handle repetitive tasks.

Industry Insight: While the market is buzzing with Proof of Concept (POC) projects, experts warn that mass production faces challenges regarding Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Radio Frequency (RF) certifications to ensure robots do not interfere with sensitive medical equipment.
