President Lai Outlines Three Pillars for a "Healthy Taiwan"Nov 27, 2025

President Lai Ching-te announced that the National Health Insurance (NHI) Global Budget for 2025 is projected to reach a record NT$1.0082 trillion, representing a 6.5% increase. This milestone underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the medical system. Additionally, to ensure continuity of care during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, clinic consultation subsidies will be increased by 30% to 100%.

President Lai identified three strategic focuses for the "Healthy Taiwan" initiative:

  1. Strengthening Holistic Care and Chronic Disease Management: Prioritizing pediatric medical and home care services for children aged 0–6.
  2. Creating a Supportive Environment for Medical Professionals: Stabilizing service supply by increasing consultation fees and enhancing nursing care capacity.
  3. Advancing Telemedicine and Digital Transformation: Improving healthcare accessibility and efficiency, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

Premier Cho Jung-tai added that Long-Term Care 3.0 will launch next year. If the central budget is approved, annual subsidies for care institutions will rise from NT$120,000 to NT$180,000 per person. With Taiwan's population aged 65+ reaching 19.9%, the government is accelerating the "Medical-Care Integration" model to meet the challenges of a super-aged society.
