Mycenax Biotech Partners with Three Major Japanese Firms to Secure Domestic Biologics Supply ChainNov 26, 2025

Mycenax Biotech announced on Nov 25 the formation of a joint venture, Alfenax Biologics, in collaboration with Japanese partners Alfresa, Kidswell, and Chiome. The new entity will leverage the strengths of all four parties to establish a biologics manufacturing base in Japan, focusing on Biologics CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) and pharmaceutical distribution.

This joint venture follows a subsidy approval from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) in May and a framework agreement in early October. Alfresa and Mycenax Biotech each hold a 45% stake. Alfresa is Japan’s largest prescription drug distributor, with annual revenues exceeding NT$600 billion.

Strategic Impact:

  • Government Subsidies: The MHLW is actively promoting biosimilar adoption and domestic production. Alfenax Biologics is eligible for subsidies covering up to 50% of plant construction costs, significantly reducing CAPEX.
  • Expansion & Compliance: Mycenax Biotech Chairman Pei-Jiun Chen noted that the alliance deepens the company’s footprint in Japan. Having recently passed inspections by Japan’s PMDA and the EU’s EMA, Mycenax Biotech’s GMP Plant 1 is entering commercial-scale production, which is expected to significantly bolster 2026 revenues.
