FaceHeart focuses on innovative AI medical software, with its contactless image-based physiological measurement software FaceHeart Vitals™ receiving U.S. FDA Class II Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) certification on April 9 for respiratory rate measurement.

FaceHeart highlighted that the FDA clearance allows respiratory rate measurement with a deviation of ±2 breaths per minute, demonstrating the product’s clinical efficacy and safety. This milestone lays a solid foundation for entering the global smart healthcare market and seizing opportunities in related applications worldwide.

Notably, FaceHeart Vitals™ is the world’s first contactless physiological measurement product cleared by the FDA. Users do not need to wear any medical devices; a simple 50-second facial scan using a standard smartphone camera enables continuous, zero-contact measurement of heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, heart rate variability, and other physiological parameters. Powered by FaceHeart Vitals™ AI technology, patients can track their health status via smartphones, providing physicians with real-time health data.
Turning everyday electronics into medical devices
The product utilizes remote Photoplethysmography (rPPG) technology, which detects subtle facial color changes through a standard RGB camera. Combined with AI models for analysis and interpretation, the software development kit (SDK) can be flexibly integrated into smartphones (iOS/Android), tablets, computers (Windows), smart TVs, smart mirrors, and other devices, instantly transforming widely available electronics into medical instruments.
“FaceHeart has partnered with multiple medical centers including National Taiwan University, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, and Veterans General Hospital to establish a clinical imaging database, collecting over 300 million data points,” emphasized Dr. Chung Meng-Liang, co-founder responsible for FDA certification and clinical trials. “Alongside various AI models, we continually improve measurement accuracy. This year, we are launching cardiovascular functional parameters including atrial fibrillation detection, heart failure risk, cardiovascular age, and cardiovascular BMI, expanding the applications of rPPG technology.
