KIM FOREST ENTERPRISE Partners with PlexBio to Tap into the Automated Testing MarketJun 03, 2025

KIM FOREST ENTERPRISE has announced a three-year exclusive sales agreement with PlexBio, an innovator in automated diagnostic equipment, to jointly promote PlexBio’s fully automated specimen preparation system, the “IntelliPrep TRIO 240,” in Taiwan. The partnership aims to address the growing demand for molecular diagnostics.

According to KIM FOREST, the IntelliPrep TRIO 240 is a comprehensive automated platform that integrates nucleic acid extraction, quantification, automatic sample concentration adjustment, and PCR preparation. Each run can handle up to 24 samples and supports various specimen types including plasma, whole blood, FFPE tissue, nasopharyngeal swabs, and suspension cells. It can also be used for downstream applications such as whole genome sequencing (WGS), whole exome sequencing (WES), liquid biopsy analysis of cfDNA, and genetic mutation analysis in FFPE tissue samples. The system’s patented magnetic adsorption pipetting technology simplifies operations, reduces manual handling and potential errors, and ensures high accuracy and efficiency in testing.

KIM FOREST noted that traditional virus testing methods often require extensive manual processing, which is time-consuming and error-prone. By automating sample preparation, the IntelliPrep TRIO 240 significantly streamlines workflows, increases throughput and consistency, enhances testing accuracy and efficiency, and minimizes human error—greatly improving the responsiveness and capacity of diagnostic institutions during public health emergencies.

Beyond infectious disease applications, the IntelliPrep TRIO 240 holds great potential in the field of precision medicine. It can serve as a front-end processing platform for advanced molecular diagnostic technologies such as WGS, WES, cfDNA liquid biopsy, and FFPE tissue mutation detection. These technologies are critical for the early diagnosis and treatment planning of cancer, rare diseases, and chronic conditions.

Traditional genetic testing often involves labor-intensive procedures, which may delay timely diagnosis. The IntelliPrep TRIO 240 substantially improves testing efficiency, helping medical institutions deliver accurate diagnostic results quickly and enabling more timely and precise treatments.

Additionally, KIM FOREST highlighted that combining the IntelliPrep TRIO 240 with high-end sequencing services like WGS and WES can further enhance automation, reduce manual intervention, improve workflow consistency, and significantly shorten turnaround times.

KIM FOREST Chairman Wu Pin-Tsung stated that the company began as a distributor of diagnostic equipment and now holds the largest portfolio of frontline diagnostic instrument brands in Taiwan. With years of experience in genomics and metabolic testing, and having gained invaluable hands-on experience during the COVID-19 pandemic through collaborations with industry, government, and academia, KIM FOREST is confident that its partnership with PlexBio will deliver powerful automated diagnostic solutions to the Taiwanese market.
