The global database platform Numbeo recently released its 2025 Health Care Index, with Taiwan once again securing the top spot. Taiwan achieved a Health Care Index score of 86.5 and a Health Care Cost Index score of 159.2, marking the seventh consecutive year it has held first place in both rankings. Taiwan outperformed neighboring South Korea and Japan, which ranked second and third, respectively.
Countries ranked 4th to 10th in the two indices include the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, France, Spain, Finland, and Thailand, with scores ranging between 77.3 and 79.3 for healthcare quality and 141 to 145.1 for cost-effectiveness. Mainland China ranked 32nd in healthcare quality and 35th in healthcare cost, while the United States placed 38th and 33rd, respectively.
Since 2012, Numbeo has been publishing the Health Care Index, ranking countries based on various data collected over the past 36 months. The platform has released its rankings twice a year since 2014, using evaluation criteria such as the skills and competence of medical professionals, the availability of medical equipment, and accessibility to healthcare facilities. Taiwan has consistently ranked No. 1 in both indices since 2019.
