As Maywufa Biotech Group enters its 49th year, the company held a New Year gathering on the 3rd, led by its founder and chairman, Chen-Chia Lee. Looking ahead to 2025, the Year of the Serpent, the group remains committed to its philosophy of embracing change and steady innovation. The company will focus on three key strategies: deepening cooperation between its proprietary brands and distribution channels, advancing biotech pharmaceuticals and health supplements, and driving innovation in AI-powered medical imaging devices.
Maywufa’s hair care product line dominates the Taiwanese market, holding the top market share for local brands, with its hair dye products maintaining the number one position for years. In 2024, the company launched its new MIT-formulated hair dye Reblack Lotion, which has been met with widespread consumer praise and was honored as the "Best Hair Color Product of the Year" at the 2024 U.S. Beauty Innovation Awards. General Manager Fred Lai stated that Maywufa will continue implementing a multi-brand strategy to meet diverse consumer needs while strengthening partnerships with major distribution channels. Through the introduction of cutting-edge products, the company aims to further enhance brand value and achieve new milestones in 2025.
Lai also highlighted that brick-and-mortar retail remains the primary driver of consumer spending. In 2024, physical retail even outpaced e-commerce growth, largely due to increased competitiveness and digital integration following the pandemic. Maywufa has established a presence in all key retail channels across Taiwan, leveraging its high-quality brands and products to strengthen collaborations. The company plans to continue boosting in-store sales in 2025, driving overall revenue growth.
Vice Chairperson Yili Lee noted that Maywufa’s strong order volume has solidified its position as Taiwan’s leading brand while expanding its overseas market footprint. The company’s new GMP- and Green Building-certified factory, which was completed and operational by the second half of 2024, has significantly improved product quality, production capacity, and manufacturing efficiency. With these advancements, Maywufa is optimistic about its market performance in 2025.
White Biotech’s Pharmaceutical Innovations Gain Market Traction
White Biotech’s prescription drug PG2 (Huibao) is the highest-level evidence-based treatment for cancer-related fatigue (CRF) in clinical guidelines. It is now used in over 100 medical institutions, including more than 90% of Taiwan’s leading medical centers such as National Cheng Kung University Hospital, Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, and Mackay Memorial Hospital. More than 400 oncologists have prescribed PG2, and General Manager Angel Lee confirmed that it will continue to be covered by Taiwan’s National Health Insurance (NHI) in 2025, with the self-pay market also expected to expand alongside stable NHI reimbursement.
White Biotech’s other new drug, PHN131 (Tongbao), is an innovative treatment for moderate-to-severe acute pain. With its potent efficacy and low addiction potential, the drug has already been adopted by more than 20 hospitals, including top-tier medical centers, as a postoperative pain management solution. Revenue for 2025 is expected to grow. The company is also collaborating with a century-old European botanical extract manufacturer to co-develop plant-based ingredients, targeting the booming post-pandemic and aging-related healthcare markets in Europe and the U.S.
AmCad BioMed Leads AI-Powered Medical Imaging Innovation
AmCad BioMed is a pioneer in AI-powered ultrasound imaging devices. One of its flagship products, the Amcad-UT thyroid ultrasound diagnostic software, has obtained regulatory approvals from Taiwan’s TFDA, the U.S. FDA, the EU’s CE, and China’s CFDA. The technology has been successfully implemented in over 200 hospitals worldwide, with more than 300 physicians utilizing it. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Amcad-UT can significantly enhance diagnostic accuracy without requiring invasive procedures, improving benign tumor detection accuracy by over 50% compared to traditional methods, while also substantially enhancing malignant tumor identification rates.
General Manager Yili Lee emphasized that Amcad-UT has received approvals from major global regulatory bodies and is now used in over 200 hospitals worldwide. A study conducted by National Taiwan University Hospital confirmed that Amcad-UT improves malignant tumor detection rates by 30% and benign tumor detection accuracy by 55% compared to traditional methods. In Taiwan, the product is expected to be included in NHI reimbursement this year, pending the results of a joint review meeting.
Another flagship product, the Amcad-UO intelligent ultrasound sleep apnea screening system, offers a quick, non-invasive screening solution that takes only 10 minutes, eliminating the need for overnight sleep studies. In 2025, AmCad BioMed will continue collaborating with corporate wellness programs and healthcare institutions to promote early diagnosis and precise treatment. Amcad-UO is particularly well-suited for sleep dentistry, a field with significant growth potential.
The company is also partnering with the University of the Pacific (UOP), one of the top 10 dental schools in the U.S., to use Amcad-UO for evaluating patients' upper airway structures. This collaboration aims to identify individuals who are unlikely to respond to mandibular advancement device (MAD) therapy for snoring and sleep apnea. Additionally, AmCad BioMed is working with Stanford’s Sleep Medicine Center as part of a joint initiative with the U.S. National Institutes of Health and Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. The promising results of these projects are expected to be presented at the World Sleep Congress in Singapore this September, further boosting the product’s global visibility and market expansion.
