Sarah Chang, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Senhwa Biosciences, stated during the investor conference on the 26th that the company is targeting the growing opportunities in the fields of immunotherapy and rare disease drugs, with plans to ramp up development efforts by 2025.
Chang highlighted the rapid growth of immunotherapy applications across cancer, inflammatory diseases, and autoimmune disorders. The global immunotherapy drug market is projected to surpass USD 1.58 trillion by 2036, with a compound annual growth rate of 15.2%.
Senhwa's investigational new drug, CX-5461, has been selected for the U.S. National Cancer Institute's (NCI) five-year NExT program. In addition to its pioneering clinical trials as a monotherapy for advanced solid tumors, the drug is being used to explore multiple biomarkers, which will aid in expanding its indications. The NCI has also planned multiple combination therapy trials for CX-5461, including its use with immunotherapy and antibody-drug conjugates (ADC)—key treatment approaches that are currently attracting substantial investment and development from major pharmaceutical companies in the cancer treatment field.
Another investigational drug under development, CX-4945, is a CK2 inhibitor that regulates multiple oncogenic pathways. Its novel mechanism holds significant therapeutic potential for various rare diseases and has received orphan drug designations for cholangiocarcinoma, bile duct cancer, medulloblastoma, and neuroblastoma. Additionally, CX-4945 has been granted Rare Pediatric Disease Designation for medulloblastoma and neuroblastoma.
In recent years, Senhwa Biosciences has focused on clinical validation for its two new drug candidates and has actively pursued out-licensing opportunities and international collaborations to enhance its global visibility and competitiveness.
